Feeling that Call-centres and Indian Independence are worlds apart? You got it wrong! Trust me,they are very much interwoven. Proving it through this post is my agenda.... Here goes the hypothesis followed by supporting proofs.
Gandhi said “India can claim to be independent only when women can move about at midnight too, freely.“ If we go by what nation’s father said, India has at last become independent. Sounding like a maniac? Let me make an attempt to prove the theorem……
You see, women (folks in general) working with the call centres and other IT related organizations, more often than not, go home at midnight, post-midnight or simply put, the wee hours of the morning , confusing even the Sun as to when he has to formally announce the strike of dawn. The first part of the theorem stating that women do move about at midnight too, is hence proved.
Coming to moving about freely, of course, they do move about 'free'ly coz the organization pays the cab-hire charges! The second part of the theorem is hence comfortably proved, I presume.
Consolidating the proofs, how does it sound like to call the call-centre employees, the real freedom fighters and call-centres, the institutions churning out freedom fighters?
Cool, naa? How I wish Gandhi lived to relish moments of Indian Freedom? Bravo, IT Fraternity! We did live up to the expectations of our Mahatma, if not to the expectations of our TLs, PMs, TMs and other components of the hierarchy.
If such a thought of mine sounds ridiculous, people, I am sure you are aware of the adage "An Idle mind is a devil's workshop! "...... I guess, this answers the cause for my being paranoid.

thank god that Gandhi died before reading this!!!
:-)
He could foresee things ,u know!:-)
The disgusting routine of working throughout the day, not sparing nights too , was the reason behind writing this post sometime back. Organisations take pride in escorting us home and that's it. Our personal life going for a toss is never considered. This was the feeling on that day.
Now writing this comment on 26th Dec ,2005, in the aftermath of the horrendous incident of a call-centre employee's assault and killing by a cab driver. I was utterly shocked to read about the incident.I am sure, many like me would have been heading for their homes at the same time in different cabs on the same night. Unlike that unfortunate soul, we just proved to be a little lucky on that day . I dare not question the validity period of that of luck. Unlimited luckis the demand.
As if the incident has been an eye-opener, people have come up with some stringent measures to avoid such incidents. I hope, these measures will survive even after this hot issue dies down.
To me, nothing but the conscience of a person can stop one from committing such crimes. Let conscience awake, for the society can never be healthy if mutual respect for men and women fails to exist.
I don't know if that is too much to ask for, I am just relying on my luck.'Luck'..... you too don't betray this women folk.
Dont worry. Luck would never betray you.At the start of the post, I immediately glanced at the date you have posted it.As it was prior to the ghasty incident, I could understand your humurous take on the working of the call centres. But now we see how horrible and deadly things can turn up. Unless the sex hungry monsters roaming around freely are completly wiped out of the face of the earth, I dont think such attrocities can be brought to an end. Considering the fact that this is a public space, I stop further comments on those b........
