Be Idol. Judge Idol

A singing competion audition. A contestant with a strong will to sing and become a great singer, sings. Does not impress the panel.Gets rejected. Nothing to vent about here. Everything stuck to protocol there. A person makes an attempt and since only the best can survive, if he could not sing well, it is fair enough to get rejected and the decison of the panel is respected.But, a role model, an idol, an icon from the panel judging the judiciousness of one's dream and saying one has to dream to one's capacity and not beyond that, was horrendous. If the contestant was a truck cleaner, does that mean he should not dream of being a singer? It would not offend if he had told that he does not have it in him to sing, but to say that to cherish dreams, which was seeming as if,of 'sophisticated-class' was not for him,was disgusting.I hope Annu Malek was not intending to demotivate the poor (literally too) contestant,and he remarked on those lines at the spur of the moment, but would it not have hurt the poor guy? Would it not have demotivated him?Big B would never be Big B if had not cherished dreams of becoming BIG despite a series of initial flop movies. Neither would Abdul Kalam or Dhirubhai Ambani have been whatever they went on to be if they had not dreamed the sophisticated-dreams!!
Let the Indian idols be judged by Indian Idols themselves !! Let the right to dream be left alone!

Seriously... We too were pretty annoyed at the rudeness shown on Anu Malik's part.. Its all doctored... The whole Idol show... All these dejections and disappointments are to add to the drama and spice.. To make it appear like a tough battle...The more crude they get, the more the audience laps it up... Atleast thats what the audience thinks... There is a regional adaptation of this show in one of the tamil channels from Star's family... Its to a talent hunt to find a 'super singer' among kids.. The elimination had otherwise polite and softspoken music personalities being ruthless.. One girl got so berseck, she bombarded the judge with a flurry of questions, asking on what grounds she was rejected.. Obviously this was juice for the guys behind the camera, and they telecasted all this with glee... The whole exercise was disgusting.. Wish these producers credit Indian Audience with some discretion atleast.. afterall even our housewives deserve some sense once in a while..

Should have been "... Atleast thats what the producers think... "

@pushpa,
Yes dear, how can they forget their humanity? Too shameless of them!

@monika,
Thanks!
I still wonder how public acknowledges such dirty games.

@~such~
It deserved all the annoyance.Harassing a economically-weak guy verbally was so horrendous. Let me see if they would comment like that to a rich-guy who came to pass time there!!
They take poor people for granted.
If it were some VIP's son, they would dare not say that fearing a case being filed against them , I suppose!!

@ Rash - It is doctored, the whole show is. All these reality shows like Big Brother, Indian Idol works on this principle " The people watching are a frustrated lot and they would like to see some minnow bashing. And knowing our Indian Aducience's penchant for drama am not surprised. People who lap up movies like Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gum and reject movies like Lakshya deserves this and only this. Am talking about Majority here.

@ Such - Nope am sorry I cant blame the producers or the detestable Anu Maliks of the show, There is a demand and they are just fulfilling it. Its plain economics. I would blame the very house wives which you said deserve some sense once a while. They dont deserve a god damn thing, they have to earn what they to deserve. The producers are just fulfilling the supply, the pathos lie else where.

@catch22:

Economics doesnt rule every walk of life.Most housewives would not watch this hogwash if given a better choice. (We did have meaningful serials and dramas in good old DD times, before the entry of the soaps...) And how do you think they can earn that privilege ? Go out on the streets boycotting the K serials ???
As for Anu malik, it does show poorly on him when he surrenders to the 'doctored' rudeness that the producers expect out of him... Maybe he isnt as successful in his primary profession as he used to be.. A few extra bucks for a tinge of rudeness ought to sound 'economically' alluring... :-).. And demand can also be artificially created... a market needed necessarily 'exist' ..

@ Such - I dont want the housewives to go marching onto streets....they dont have to do any of that...I just want that to stop watching them...as you know the TRP ratings are ruled by viewerships and if the viewership reduced then people wont make such shows its plain and simple. As per the Indian Idol show goes dont sms your choices, when the smses decrease so does the viewership these shows will die the natural death.

And yeah Economics does rule every walk of life if you live in the illusion that it doesnt then you are deluding urself. A market can artificially created....yeah yeah if u allow people to manipulate they wouldnt just stop at that. Its plain simple madame stop watching these shows and you leave producers no choice but to put on a better show.... As long as people drool over these Kyon-ki-saas-bhi-kabhi-bahu-thi and Mette-oli shows these shows are here to stay.

@ Rash - These days its simple for me, if a movie has Sharukh in it (Swades being an exception) or it is by Karan Johar I dont watch it.Period.

I too personally feel that the audience is the inspiration for such stupid shows!! The T.V shows eye at success in monetary terms rather than meeting the ethical levels. They encash on the predominant nature of the people to be interested in being bothered about anything over and beyond the aim of the show!! Why should one care what the family background of the singer or cricket player or roadie is ? Yet, people watch these shows more for the bio-data rather than their talent!! Me sick of it.

It's even more disgusting to see a participant winning solely for the reason that he hails from a particular region that fetches him more votes, be it that he sings a little better than a mere bathroom singer!!

@ Rash - I donno whom you are referring to but if you are referring to last years SA RE GA MA winnet Debojit I agree with ya that dude never deserved it, The other guy Vineet was much more talented than him..

@catch and rash:

all these shows are inspirations from Western TV, especially American.. There is a marked difference between american and british television content, with the drama content heightened in the former. It depends on what our producers want to ape, or how long they can continue to ape.

When you say that economics runs every walk of life, we seem to tilt towards a simplification that is likely to overlook other factors. And conventional economics has been proved wrong in quite a many phenomenon in history.

Ofcourse, people can stop and probably will stop watching the K serials, once they have a viable alternate. My father, after his retirement got hooked on to one of the mega serials, which he watched with a vengence. But come the world cup, (cricket being his first love) the serial moves to oblivion. Its a mere case of the range of choice. Just as Radio Indigo chose to be pure English, when all other radio stations went into regional and bollywood music.. A matter of principles and intelligent marketing.. Economics tries to find explanation to phenomenons and ways to work with/around them, most of the time, and does little or nothing to create a phenomenon..

@such,
I agree to most of what you say, but I still question the lack of viable alternate,more so in the era of multitude channels!!
It's a matter of the choice , I suppose and it seems to be a season of these pot-boiler reality shows that people are lapping up!
